How can i stop myself from playing online poker?

online poker
Kaboom asked:

Not really an addictive personality or major gambling problem…..but when i get bored, i just find that i enjoy playing online poker more than anything else. Good enough that i break even in long run, so i’m not losing much money, but its the time and opportunity cost that bothers me.

Destroy Your Computer :: Break Your Arm :: Unplug the cord to the computer :: Siphon gas out of car onto ground so that way you have no way of getting to another computer :: Get Hypnotized

The best thing to do is replace it with something else. Like a non-habit. Make the decision to quit and do so. But then back that up by filling your time so that you Cannot login… like go OUT and away from your house… or Catch up on chores or busy yourself with a friend, watch a movie…

get the hankering to log back in and turn your computer off..

If you are really serious have a friend or loved one come over and Block the sites with password protect.

I too used to play alot (too much) online poker. Since they’ve been throwing people in jail in the USA, I’ve stopped playing. It was probably the best thing that ever happened to me.

The best thing to do is to write to the poker site you like and tell them you need to take a break from playing. They will disable your account for you.

Alternatively you could learn to be a better player so that you make money instead of simply break even. They it wouldn’t be such a waste of money.

You might also consider joining a local pub poker league. At least that is more sociable and fun than sitting alone staring at your computer.

If you are running Microsoft Windows XP, your computer will have a built-in stop-guard for online poker. From the start menu, select “Turn off Computer”. Then select “Turn Off” (The Red Box).

After the machine has powered down, take the dogs for a walk, ride your bicycle or dust the living room.
